Haryana Thief Returns COVID-19 Vaccines After A Change of Heart

The thief returned the bag with a note written in Hindi that read, "Sorry, I didn't know it was medicines for corona."

Haryana: A very curious case of a thief returning his pillage has taken place in Jind, Harayana. First, a  thief allegedly fled with 1,700 doses of COVID-19 vaccine in Haryana’s Jind and then realizing what he had stolen, returned the bag. The thief returned the bag with a note written in Hindi that read, “Sorry, I didn’t know it was medicines for corona.”

The theft was first reported on Thursday morning when a sanitation worker found that the locks of the storeroom where the vaccine was kept were broken.

The suspect returned the bag to a man outside a tea shop

At around 12.30 pm on Thursday, the thief returned with the bag and gave it to a man at a tea shop outside Civil Lines police station. The unidentified suspect told the man that he was delivering food for the cops and ran on the pretext of running an errand. 

The cops suspected that the man stole the vaccines as he assumed they were Remdesivir vials. Remdesivir injections are in heavy demand as these injections are used for the treatment of lung infection that occurred due to COVID-19.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of the Jind Civil Hospital, Dr. Bimla Rathi said officials reached the vaccination center on Thursday morning only to find that the storeroom had been broken into. Jabs, including BCG and polio vaccines, and cash remained untouched while COVID-19 vaccines were reported stolen.

The SHO of Civil Lines Police Station, Rajendar Singh, said that nothing else was stolen and they had filed a complaint about this theft and are hoping to track down the thief soon.
Officials have said that the doses contained 1270 doses of Covishield and 440 doses of Covaxin.

The accused has not been identified yet. The cops assured that efforts are underway to locate the suspect.
