About the G7

The G7 (Group of Seven) is an organisation comprising of the world’s seven largest advanced economies like Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the United States. Russia joined in the year 1998, but was excluded in 2014 because of its annexation of the territory of Crimea. China has never been a member of G7 yet.

In past years the G7 has taken several significant actions to strengthen the global healthcare infrastructure, economy, combat tax evasion, and supported the education of millions of children. In 2015 the G7 members led the way in securing the historic Paris Climate Agreement to limit global emissions.

At the end of the summit, the UK – as the host nation – will publish a document called a communiqué which will outline what has been agreed by the leaders.
