UNITED STATES: Lionel Messi’s Argentina defeated Brazil to win the Copa America title after 28 long years. The lengthy wait for Lionel Messi has finally come to an end. Lionel Messi, who has won every Title with Barcelona was yet to win a National Title. His streak has come to an end with today’s triumph. Messi and co. had their job cut out for them against a quality Brazil team, and they rose to the occasion wonderfully. Argentina joins Uruguay for joint most Copa America Titles.

In the 22nd minute, Argentina took the lead as Angel Di Maria took advantage of a defensive failure by lifting the ball over Ederson and into the net. With his great touch, Di Maria kept it under control and chipped it past Ederson. Angel Di Maria scored his first goal for Argentina in 13 games spanning 3 years. This was also Argentina’s first goal in finals since 2005.

Messi was on fire leading up to the final, scoring five goals. In addition, the 34-year-old was named the competition’s top goal scorer and best player. In the ongoing Copa America, Lionel Messi was at his best as he won the Golden Boot and Best Player of the Tournament.
