African Leaders Mourn President Magufuli

Whereby national and East African Community flags will fly at half-mast until Magufuli burial.

TANZANIA: African Presidents have expressed their heartfelt condolences to the Republic of Tanzania following the death of President John Magufuli who passed away on Wednesday.

They described him as a dedicated man who worked tirelessly towards the growth of the SADC region and his country as well.

Presidents of Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda have all declared national mourning for late President John Magufuli.

Rwandan President Speaks

In his condolence message Rwandan President, Paul Kagame said he lost a brother and friend.

“We are saddened by the death of my brother and friend President Magufuli. His contribution to his country and our region will not be forgotten”.

Zambian President Speaks

Zambian President, Edgar Lungu described the late Magufuli as a selfless man who worked tirelessly to bring transformation to his country.

“The untimely death of President Magufuli will forever be painfully etched in the memory of the People of the Republic of Tanzania for his selfless resolve to bring socio-economic transformation and prosperity to his countrymen.”

Botswana President Speaks

President of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi said the death of President Magufuli is a loss to the African continent.

“As the region, we still vividly recall his recent contribution as the Chairperson of SADC in our regional and industrial efforts”.

President Magufuli assumed SADC chairmanship in 2019 which he handed over to Mozambiquan President in 2020.

During his tenure in the office, several achievements have been recorded despite the catastrophe brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Notable achievements include timely development of SADC guidelines on the movement of goods and services across the region during COVID-19, finalization of the development of the SADC vision 2050, and Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020-2030 among others.
