INDIA. Mumbai: A six-day-long largest biennial tri-services amphibious exercise, ‘AMPHEX-2023,’ held from January 17 to January 22 on a beach near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, was concluded on Sunday.

The joint operations conducted during the exercise saw participation by a large number of troops from the Indian Army, amphibious warships from the Indian Navy, and aircraft from the Indian Air Force

‘AMPHEX-2023’ included complex activities in all domains that demonstrated and validated the high level of preparedness and excellent coordination between the three services to undertake the full spectrum of amphibious operations.

The exercise was conducted to validate India’s capabilities to safeguard the territorial integrity of the island territories. It was meant to make it easier for the three services to work together and fight wars as a team.

The exercise included a variety of engagements, including multi-faceted maritime operations involving the coordinated use of amphibious assault ships, as well as the execution of maritime airstrikes, surveillance platforms, and complex sea maneuvers.

It also needed the Navy’s Marine Commandos and the Army’s Special Forces to be dropped from the air, as well as naval gunfire support, the landing of amphibious forces, and operations afterward.

During the exercise, a ship from the Indian Navy carried amphibious boats, Navy commandos rappelled from Navy helicopters, and Army troops in infantry fighting vehicles moved on a beach near Kakinada.

The exercise took place amid growing concerns over China’s increasing military forays into the Indian Ocean, a region considered the backyard of the Indian Navy.
