Anahita Pandole Arrested in Car Accident That Killed Industrialist Cyrus Mistry

The case for negligent driving was filed against Anahita Pandole based on the report of the final analysis of the ill-fated car's data chip

INDIA. Mumbai: Famous gynaecologist Dr Anahita Darius Pandole (55), who was involved in the accident that killed businessman Cyrus Mistry (ex-Chairman of Tata Sons) and her brother-in-law Jehangir on September 4 of this year, was arrested on Saturday by Palghar police.

FIR registered against Anahita Pandole

An FIR (No. 214/2022 (Kasa police FIR No 42/2022) was registered against Anahita Pandole after a report of the final analysis of the ill-fated car’s data chip was received from Mercedes-Benz, Pune. The action was also taken based on the report of RTO Vasai.

According to Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil, the final analytical report established that Anahita was over-speeding while operating Mercedez (No. MH 47 AB 6705). Although Mercedes-Benz first reported that the vehicle was travelling at 100 kmph until five seconds before the crash.

The final investigation revealed that she applied the brakes 3.5 seconds before the collision, which caused the vehicle’s speed to decrease to 89 kmph. As a result, Mistry and Jehangir, who were in the back passenger seats, violently collided with the front seats’ backrests, suffering serious injuries,

Darius Dinshaw Pandole and Anahita Darius Pandole suffered injuries, while Cyrus Mistry Pallonji Mistry and Jehangir Dinshaw Pandole died in the accident. While Anahita is still receiving care at the Sir H N Reliance Foundation Hospital, Darius was released from there last week.

Anahita has been accused of driving recklessly and carelessly, which is what caused the vehicle to crash into the Surya River Bridge railing. The Indian Penal Code’s provisions 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence), as well as sections 112/183, 184, and 14 and 117(A) of the Motor Vehicle Driving Regulations, are all cited in the FIR.

The Indian Penal Code, Section 304A, imposes a maximum sentence of two years in prison, a fine, or both. Patil added that after Anahita is released from the hospital and questioned, the next step will be decided.

On National Highway 48 between Udwada, Gujarat, and Mumbai, Mistry, Jehangir, Anahita, and her husband Darius were travelling when their Mercedes-Benz struck a concrete barrier marking the end of the third lane of the highway at Kasa, Palghar district, Maharashtra.

According to Darius’ statement, which was taped on Tuesday at his home in Mumbai, Anahita was travelling in the third lane, and another car was in front of theirs. Anahita attempted to move into the second lane as the Mercedes-Benz abruptly veered into it, but she encountered a truck blocking her way.

Patil added that Anahita had left the pelvic strap unfastened and had only drawn one strap of the seat belt across her shoulder, demonstrating further neglect on her side.
