Army Public School Students undertake Heritage Walk to Gateway of India

The Heritage walk highlighted the historic role of Mumbai to the students

INDIA. Mumbai: To commemorate 75 years of independence as part of “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”, the Army Public School, Mumbai, conducted a heritage walk from Colaba Military Station to the iconic Gateway of India located in South Mumbai on February 17.

The Heritage Walk began at the Army Public School (APS) at Colaba with 120 students accompanied by their teachers and Principal Lakshmi Madhuri Chatti.

During the walk, the students displayed placards advocating messages to protect our heritage, follow green practices to safeguard the environment, and various other social causes to create awareness amongst the citizens.

On completion of the heritage walk at the Gateway of India, a vibrant cultural programme showcasing our cultural heritage was put up for the students. The program began with Lieutenant Colonel Sandeep Legha and the Principal of APS releasing tri-colour balloons. The program culminated with the singing of the National Anthem.

The heritage walk was indeed an enthralling experience for the students. According to an official statement, it highlighted the city’s significant historical role and character to the students and generated interest and involvement of the local community in urban conservation activity.

Army Public School, Mumbai, is a public school run under Indian Army supervision and is part of the Army Public School network. The school also has a student council, which is elected every year through a three-tiered process of elections and is responsible for maintaining discipline in the school.

The APS is a system of private schools established to impart education to the children of Indian Armed Forces personnel. With 137 schools throughout the country, it is one of the largest chains of schools in India. 

The Army Welfare Education Society (AWES), which controls it was established in 1983. It also has 249 Army pre-primary schools across India and several higher education institutions. The APS follows the NCERT curriculum and is affiliated with the CBSE, New Delhi.
