Today would have been Anthony Bourdain’s 65th birthday. The celebrated chef’s legacy continues even after his demise that left a void in the culinary world.

Bourdain’s day is observed every year on June 25, his birthday, to celebrate his life and the things he stood for.

The day was declared as Bourdain’s day in 2019 when his long-time friends and the world’s most prominent chefs, Éric Ripert and José Andrés took to Instagram to honor their friend Anthony Bourdain. They urged people, especially Bourdain’s fans, to make a toast to Bourdain to mark the occasion.

“I hope that this is a place that many people will go to, will enjoy life, will have a drink. They will cook, they will go to a food truck. They will go to [a] picnic. They will go to [a] street vendor. A hot dog, a fancy restaurant, whatever. And they will toast Tony and wish, ‘Happy Bourdain Day’ on Instagram, on [the] internet, on Twitter. That’s it,” Esquire quoted Andrés, as saying, in 2019.
