JAMMU AND KASHMIR. Budgam: Budgam Police recovered one ancient sculpture of Goddess Durga from Khansahib area on recently. A team of officers from the Archives, Archeaology, & Museum department were called for examination of the recovered sculpture. The officers have said that the sculpture of Goddess Durga dates back roughly to 7th-8th AD (about 1200 years old).
The sculpture is 12”x 08” in size and carved in a black stone. This sculpture of Goddess Durga seated on a lion throne along with four attendants is in a good condition even after so many years.
The Goddess Durga sculpture was handed over formally to Shri Mushtaq Ahmad Beigh Deputy Director Department of Archives, Archaeology & Museums J&K Government and his team by Shri Tahir Saleem Khan-JKPS, SSP Budgam in presence of Shri Gowhar Ahmad-JKPS ASP Budgam, Shri Aftab Awan-JKPS SDPO Khansahib and other Police/Civil officers through proper handing / taking over.
The Goddess Durga sculpture was found from the river Jhelum at Pandrethan Srinagar by labourers who were extracting sand from the river on August 13.
“Pertinent to mention that the said sculpture was found from river Jhelum at Pandrethan, Srinagar by labourers who were extracting sand from the river on 13th August 2021, the J&K Police said.
