Burga became an inspiration and a hope for the women in Peru. Her boundary-pushing works focused on authorship, forms of labor, and the status of women in Peru. The traditional garments wore by the women in the late 60s found a way into her art, explaining stereotypes and norms that were different at that time. Burga was an acclaimed conceptual artist internationally. Her exemplary art still remains a great depiction of feminism and excellence.

Besides, her recent exhibition was held in New York. It exhibited drawings by her that she had completed in the course of thirty years. Titled ‘Insomnia Drawings’, she completed the art while she was suffering from sleeplessness.

Over the past five decades, Burga’s art has taken a number of forms, from fancifully colored sculptures to drawings based on children’s doodles. Yet it has only been recently that this work has come to light internationally. There is a three-decade lacuna in Burga’s CV, from 1981 to 2010, in which she barely showed her art publicly.
