“I do what I do for the love of filmmaking and I have been obsessed since I can remember. I’ve grown up in this fraternity and it gives me immense pride to be a part of it. I wouldn’t be what I am today if I didn’t choose what I did. I have always thought of acting as an escape to an alternate reality and an opportunity to be so many people other than myself. It’s endearing and I love the challenges I face every day,” Hoshang told Transcontinental Times.

The actor started his journey in 1985 with his first movie, Tum Par Hum Qurban. “I can still remember facing the camera for the first time, the excitement and nervousness. I still get that even now after so many roles I’ve played,” grinned Hoshang.

“I also have directed many shows like Abhi Toh Main Jawaan Hoon on TV Asia and now I’m directing a YouTube Channel called Tabassum Talkies that features my mother, now who wouldn’t want that in their trajectory?” said Hoshang.

Storytelling: The power to change the world

Regarding global issues that can be tackled through celluloid, Hoshang believes that filmmaking is inspired by real-life events, and real-life events are inspired by movies. “Storytelling through films is an amazing platform to seed the thought of many global issues we need to deal with. I think filmmaking has the power to change the world one movie at a time,” said the actor.

Excited about the young blood taking over the industry, Hoshang said, “We are seeing so many new ideas and thoughts that our industry has never seen before. I always believe in the phrase “change with the times” and I do just that. I’m thrilled to take a new step as an actor and venture into the world of web series. I’m over the moon for this next phase of my life as an actor!”

When coaxed for advice to the community of rising filmmakers, Hoshang said, “I would love to tell every honest filmmaker to create opportunities for themselves. The industry is cut-throat, and the only person who can help you get visibility is you! So don’t shy away from self-promotion and putting your work out there. Get noticed and work hard.”

Lastly, Hoshang beamed with honor for the personality that filmmaking helped him become. In his words, “The way I network, the way I talk, walk and think is all because of it. I owe my life to filmmaking and that’s something I want the readers to know.”
