INDIA: On Thursday, India recorded 46,164 fresh COVID-19 cases. The overall tally of active cases has now reached 3,33,725. This is a giant leap from the 37,593 infections registered by the country a day ago.
According to the latest data, the country’s COVID-19 tally has now exceeded 32 million.
On Tuesday, Kerala witnessed a spike in its daily tally and recorded 24,926 cases and recorded 31,445 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday. This is Kerala’s highest single-day tally in three months. The state has contributed the most number of cases to India’s total COVID-19 tally. The COVID-19 test positivity rate (TPR) in Kerala also soared to a three-month high of 19.03 percent.
Due to Onam celebrations, Kerala is reeling under a renewed onslaught of the virus. A similar peak in the number of COVID-19 cases was seen in Kerala after last year’s Onam celebrations.
Meanwhile, The Union Health Ministry said that over 58.07 crore vaccine doses against COVID-19 have been provided to States and Union Territories.
“More than 58.07 crores (58,07,64,210) vaccine doses have been provided to States and UTs so far through Government of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category. Further, 51,48,970 doses are in the pipeline,” a statement issued by the ministry read.
