MALAWI. Blantyre: Samson Fiado is the brain behind EasyBooks Accounting, a web-based accounting package developed to manage financial data for small and medium institutions in Malawi.

Fiado is a graduate of information systems from the Polytechnic under the University of Malawi.

The software was developed after noting that a lot of accounting software systems available on the Malawi market was not affordable to small enterprises.

Before developing the software, Fiado wanted to withdraw from the university due to lack of fees but was saved by the Joyce Banda Foundation belonging to Joyce Banda former president of Malawi.

The software was developed while at college.

Fiado arrived at the college without shoes and beddings; he used meal and accommodation allowance from the Joyce Banda Foundation to buy the items.

American Hip hop star and businessman, Akon was present including Barack Obama former United States of America president.

Fiado also represents Malawi at the International Telecommunication Innovation Exhibition Fair in Budapest, Hungary.

Locally, his innovation was the Best Financial Technology Innovation award by the National Bank of Malawi and the ICT Association of Malawi, a body of ICT experts.

Despite EasyBooks Accounting being locally embraced, Fiado has been receiving inquiries from Rwanda, Zambia Tanzania, and Kenya

“I am therefore planning to have the product on the international market,” says Fiado.
