NIA Files Supplementary Charge Sheet against 9 Drug Traffickers in Salaya Drug Case

The drugs were to be distributed in different parts of India, especially Punjab

INDIA. Mumbai: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) named nine drug traffickers, including one woman, in a supplementary charge sheet filed in connection with a Rs 1500 crore Salaya drugs seizure case of 2018 (RC 26/2020/NIA/DLI) in Gujarat, on Saturday. A large amount of heroin was shipped by sea from Pakistan.

The drugs were to be distributed throughout India, particularly in Punjab. After the seizure, one or two peddlers were arrested from Gujarat and subsequently many accused were nabbed from Punjab.

On Saturday, the supplementary charge sheet was filed in NIA Special Court in Ahmedabad in the NIA case dated July 02, 2020 (earlier FIR No 01/2018 dated August 12, 2018, by ATS Police, Ahmedabad. “The conspiracy was hatched in Dubai for the smuggling and distribution of drugs,” an NIA statement said.

The accused was booked under section 120B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), sections 21(c), read with 8(c), 25, 27(A), and 29 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and sections 17 & 18 of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The accused are Bashir Dawood Kundga alias Raja Kathiyara, Dwarka, Gujarat, Mamad Ibrahim Sama, Dwarka, Gujarat, Tamanna Gupta, Amritsar, Punjab ( charges levied only under 120 B of IPC read with 21(C),25,29 of NDPS Act), Major Singh Amritsar, Punjab, Shahil Sharma, Majitha, Amritsar, Anwar Masih, Amritsar, Sukhwinder Singh, Amritsar, Punjab, Mantej Singh alias Mantej Mann, Amritsar, Punjab, and Arman Bassar Mal, Achen Province Ninghar, Jalalabad, Afghanistan.

The consignment of 500 kg heroin worth Rs 1500 crore in the international market was seized from Salaya the port which carries the tag “Smugglers haven”, in 2018.

According to the NIA, a criminal conspiracy was hatched in Dubai for smuggling and distribution of 500 kg of illegal narcotic drugs from Pakistan to Gujarat via sea route. 

Pakistani nationals delivered the heroin brought in by a Pakistani fishing vessel in Indian territorial waters, approximately 7 to 8 miles away from Jakhau port in Kutch, Gujarat.

“Smuggled drugs were sent from Pakistan to India for further delivery in Amritsar for raising funds by Pakistani national Haji Saab @Bhaijaan to harm well being of the vulnerable youth population of India,” NIA stated.
