Nigerian Government Releases Names Of COVID-19 Protocol Violators

NIGERIA: The Nigerian government has released the names of 90 Nigerians and foreigners who have violated the country’s COVID-19 travel protocol.

These violators were said not to have adhered to the guidelines of passengers who returned to the country recently.

The Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) released the list of violators on Friday.

The statement, which was available on the Twitter handle of the Committee, was signed by Secretary To The Government Of The Federation who is the Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha.

It stated that the violators had arrived in Nigeria between 8th May 2021 and 15th May 2021 through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

“Those whose names and passport numbers are displayed have been declared Persons of Interest (POI) on account of posing a considerable danger to overall public health and for the violation of Nigeria COVID-19 travel protocol by evading the mandatory seven-day quarantine for persons arriving from restricted countries.

“The Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) has observed that while most of the arriving passengers dutifully observed the guidelines, some (Nigerians and Foreigners) have violated them in contravention of the provisions of the COVID-19 Health Regulations Protection 2021.”

Warning to Members of the Public

The Committee warned members of the public to note that the named persons constitute an immediate health hazard to society.

The Committee then stated that it shall take further steps to sanction the violators to serve as adherence to others.

Sanctions 

The sanctions include disabling the travel passports of the violators for a period not less than one year and cancellation of visas or permits of foreigners that have abused the regulations.

Further prosecution under the 2021 Health Protection Regulations would be enforced, the Committee stated
