Social influencers and athletes makes a terrific debut

in this year’s Met Gala list social influencers were invited for the first time along with regular guests like Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, etc. Tiktok and Youtube stars like Emma Chamberlain, Addison Rae, Madison Beer, Nikki De Jager and many others also graced the event. Hollywood couple Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck garnered attention with their masked kiss at the 2021 Met Gala red carpet. The two made their red carpet debut this year with Ralph Lauren. The two recently walked their first red carpet together at the Venice Film Festival on Friday, September 11, 2021. ASAP Rocky and Rihanna also made their relationship official at the Met Gala.

Co-chairs this year included Billie Eilish, Timothée Chalamet, Naomi Osaka, and Amanda Gorman. But, plenty of other Hollywood A-listers walked the famous Met steps, too.

Gymnast Nia Dennis kickstarted the night by cartwheeling along the red carpet in her bedazzled Adidas for Stella McCartney jumpsuit, while the Brooklyn United Marching Band played joyfully in the background. Soccer star Megan Rapinoe kept up the 2019 Met Gala theme of camp in a red-white-and-blue suit from Sergio Hudson. However, the athlete that left everyone awestruck was gymnast Simone Biles. The Olympian stepped out in an 88-pound dress covered in Swarovski crystals.

Timothee’s converse and Kim K’s dementor vibes

Most celebrities make a statement upon their arrival on the red carpet, but Timothée Chalamet jumped the gun and live-streamed his stroll up 5th Avenue to the Met with his mysterious artist collaborator JR.

Swarms of fans quickly mobbed the Dune star, who wore Haider Ackermann sweats and Chuck Taylors for the event.

Kim Kardashian is famous for experimenting with her outfits. This year, she attended Met Gala, for which she wore an avant-garde look from Balenciaga, which showed zero skin. Her bizarre choice of outfit was criticized by many. Netizens even compared her look with dementors from the Harry Potter movies.

Politics of fashion at the Met Gala

Interestingly, this year’s Met Gala saw several sartorial moments. However, what stood out was the political stances of the attendees. The interpretations of this year’s theme ranged from the red-and-white of the American flag draped as a skirt to a “Peg the Patriarchy” jacket.

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortex made her red carpet debut with a stunning off-shoulder floor-length gown with “Tax the rich” written in bold red letters. Supermodel-actor Cara Delevingne wore a white Dior tank top with “Peg the Patriarchy” on it. Congresswoman Carolyn B Maloney wore a gown with a cape-like train that had “Equal Rights for Women” written on it.

The LGBTQIA+ community made their voices heard at this edition as well, wearing their sexuality on their sleeves.
