UNITED STATES: An investigation has confirmed that the man suspected of initiating a mass shooting in Monterey Park, California, killed himself when interrogated by police on Sunday. He killed himself 12 hours after he carried out his shooting spree in light of the Lunar New Year celebration at a dance club.

A total of 10 people have died, and another ten are heavily wounded in the incident that occurred at 10:22 p.m. (local time) in California on Saturday. As reported by Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna, the victims were expected to be between 50-60 years old.

The sheriff also announced that the suspect was found in his vehicle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The accused was expecting a second shooting at another club, some time after the first one.

The sheriff added that the suspect was carrying a high-functioning, semi-automatic, extended-magazine pistol for the shooting that killed old patrons celebrating at the Star Ballroom dance club.

The suspect, Huu Can Tran, fled the scene after bystanders tried to take the weapon away from him.

“I can tell you that the suspect walked in there, probably with the intent to kill more people, and two brave community members decided they would jump into action and disarm him,” Luna said.

Despite gun violence being rampant in the USA, the ultimate motive for the shooting was unclear. The sheriff confirmed that the pistol that Tran used was banned in accordance with state laws.

The gunshots were mistaken for fireworks, says Tiffany Chiu, 30, who was celebrating at her parent’s house near where the shooting occurred.

President Joe Biden tells the Homeland Security Advisor to start helping local governments with federal money. Other cities have sent more officers to look over the celebrations.

The massacre was one of the deadliest in the nation; it happened to be the fifth mass killing in the country. It was also the most atrocious attack since the mass shooting on May 24, where 21 people were killed in an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas.
