UNITED STATES: Twitter is relaunching its Blue subscription on Monday, a month after giving up on a botched first attempt that prompted phony accounts and general mayhem.

The “blue tick,” including other services, will cost users $8 per month if they subscribe through the web and $11 per month if they subscribe via iOS, the microblogging app said.

Twitter announced the news on its platform

The social media app tweeted, “we’re relaunching @TwitterBlue on Monday – subscribe on web for $8/month or on iOS for $11/month to get access to subscriber-only features, including the blue checkmark.”

With the revamped service, users will be able to get new features on the app. The users will get to modify tweets, upload 1080p videos, and receive a blue checkmark as the account verification completes.

The social networking app did not address why Apple users were being charged more than other internet users, but some of the media claim that the firm was exploring ways to offset the costs levied in the App Store.

Early in November, the microblogging app initially introduced “Twitter Blue” before halting it as phony accounts proliferated. Subsequently, it was scheduled to launch once more on November 29, 2022, but that date was postponed.

In a string of tweets last month, Elon Musk, who paid $44 billion to acquire the social media app in November, cited a number of problems with Apple, including the 30% fee the iPhone manufacturer levies on software developers for in-app purchases.

He continued by claiming that iPhone manufacturers had stopped advertising on Twitter and that Apple had threatened to delete the social networking site from its app store.

He did, however, tweet that the confusion regarding microblogging app’s removal from the Apple app store had been cleared up during a further chat with Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Apple and Twitter did not respond to requests for comments.
