UNITED KINGDOM: Mercedes-AMG is releasing a limited-edition SL 63 to celebrate the end of the F1 season, despite a subpar year.

2022 was not a great F1 season for Mercedes, as the German team managed to win just one race after George Russell came first in the penultimate round in Brazil. He finished fourth in the driver standings, while Lewis Hamilton had to settle for sixth place.

The sporty SL 63 roadster, based on the range-topping 63, is now available in the Motorsport Collector’s Edition with various visual tweaks to resemble the W12, Mercedes’ 2021 F1 car, rather than the W13 from last year.

The metallic paint has a colour gradient from silver to obsidian-black, like Hamilton and Bottas’ W12, and contrasts with the familiar Petronas green. In keeping with the race car, there are numerous three-pointed stars on the car’s rear half.

The AMG Aerodynamics Package, which includes larger flaps at both the front and rear aprons, comes from Affalterbach as a standard installation.

Additionally, a modified underbody and a beefier diffuser have been added to the SL-specific kit to enhance airflow.

A black chrome grille, dark brake callipers, and black badges are just a few of the numerous black accents that Mercedes-AMG has added to the roadster as a part of the AMG Night Package and the AMG Night Package II.

The SL 63 Motorsport Collectors has a black, electrically operated fabric roof and 21-inch wheels with a 10-twin-spoke design.

The AMG Performance seats are available in black Napa leather with red or yellow stitching.

The headrests of both seats have an embossed AMG emblem. The accessories include carbon fibre trim, a Burmester sound system, a head-up display, and an AMG Track Pace telemetry system.

Mercedes will produce only 100 units of the roadster, and each will come with a tear-resistant synthetic indoor car cover.

Additionally, it features an interior anti-static woven flannel lining to shield the vehicle from dust and scratches.

The same twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 that powers the SL 63 Motorsport Collector’s Edition produces 585 horsepower and 800 N-m of torque. It has sufficient AMG muscle to reach a top speed of 315 km/h (196 mph) in 3.6 seconds.
