UNITED ARAB EMIRATES: In a recent development on UAE holidays, public sector employees in Sharjah will enjoy an extended four-day weekend as the government designates a holiday to commemorate the birthday of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH).

The emirate’s human resources department has confirmed that all government offices, departments, and agencies will be closed on Thursday, September 28, providing staff members with an extended weekend to mark the historic day with reverence and solemnity.

In Sharjah, organisations traditionally observe a three-day weekend, spanning from Friday to Sunday. However, with the extra holiday, employees will now relish a four-day hiatus and are expected to resume work on Monday, October 2.

This announcement was communicated to department heads and directors through an official government circular, ensuring that all pertinent departments were informed about the extended weekend arrangement.

In different updates, the UAE government has announced a public holiday for those employed in the private sector.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has officially designated Friday, September 29, 2023 (1445 AH), as a paid public holiday to commemorate the Prophet’s birthday.

This announcement, disseminated by MoHRE, aligns with the Cabinet Resolution that outlines the approved public holidays for both the public and private sectors in the year 2023.
