INDIA: NCP MLA and former minister Jitendra Awhad was arrested last week after he and his supporters stopped a show of “Har Har Mahadev” at a multiplex inside a mall. However, he came out on bail soon after.

However, in a new incident, an FIR was lodged against him for assaulting a woman. The Mumbra police registered a case after midnight on Monday against Awhad under Indian Penal Code Section 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty).

In a tweet on Monday, the NCP leader said, “Two false cases against me in 72 hours… I have decided to resign as MLA. Will fight against this police brutality. I cannot simply watch this murder of democracy.”

According to the woman, she will be meeting Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. Recently, the former minister was charged with sections 323 (assault) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) for gatecrashing into a multiplex and creating trouble for the cinephiles.

Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) leader Aaditya Thackeray said, “Jitendra Awhad has done the right thing. We are ready to go to jail with him.”
