Sonic got its first live-action adaptation in Sonic the Hedgehog 2020, which was well received by fans despite mixed reviews from critics. The film grossed $319.7 million at the global box office, outperforming the majority of video game adaptation films. The sequel grossed $402.2 million at the box office, making it the most profitable video game-based film.

The most intriguing aspect about Sonic the Hedgehog 2020 was that the initial trailer published by Paramount Pictures portrayed a different version of Sonic, which sparked outrage among fans. After receiving feedback, the studio produced a new trailer a few months later that depicted the video game character’s accurate version.
