Shiv Sena Leader Sudhir Suri Shot Dead on the Streets of Amritsar

As per the reports, at least five shots were fired at him

INDIA. Punjab: Punjab’s Hindutva Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri was shot dead on a busy street in Amritsar in the afternoon on November 4. Amritsar Police Commissioner Arun Pal Singh confirmed the death.

The incident occurred when Suri held a sit-in protest outside a temple premises. Suri was demonstrating against the temple authorities after some broken idols were found in the trash outside the temple site.

The Shiv Sena leaders were protesting outside the temple in a residential area. In the meantime, someone suddenly came out from the crowd and shot Suri. As per the reports, at least five shots were fired at him. The entire incident was caught on camera, showing a huge group of cops surrounding Suri.

The right-wing leader was on a hit list and thus offered police protection of 12 men, and local cops were deployed at the spot. The alleged attacker is identified as Sandeep Singh, a local shopkeeper. He has been taken into custody.

Meanwhile, Singh gave his statement on the unexpected incident, “The weapon has been seized, and further investigation is on.” As per reports, the alleged culprits had come to the spot in an SUV, and three people were involved; however, the other eloped.

Suri was known for his fiery nature. His social media videos mostly targeted some Sikh outfits and Khalistan supporters in particular.

He was also arrested this year in July on charges of using offensive language against some particular communities and tampering with religious sentiments. A local source revealed that conspiracy theories are making rounds among residents of Amritsar.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Tajinder Singh Bagga, lashed at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and called it their failure to protect law and order in the state. “Law and order collapsed in Punjab, Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri injured in firing in Amritsar,” he said.
