INDIA: The long-awaited Women’s Indian Premier League (WPL) schedule has been released, and the IPL Chairman confirmed it on Monday. The inaugural WPL will begin on March 4 and conclude on March 26.

IPL chairman unveils WPL schedule

The Gujarat Giants and the Mumbai Indians will probably square off in the tournament’s opening game. The WPL will be played in Mumbai from March 4 to 26, according to IPL chairman Arun Dhumal.

Additional confirmation from Dhumal states that the auction will be held on February 13 in Mumbai, the day after India’s T20 World Cup match against Pakistan.

The five teams in the WPL were sold for a combined total of Rs 4669.99 crore, making it the second-largest T20 league in the world, behind the Indian Premier League, while the BCCI sold the media rights for Rs 951 crore.

Along with the three IPL team owners, the Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Capitals, the five franchises were acquired by Capri Global Holdings (Lucknow) and Adani Sportsline.

About 1500 people registered for the league, and the final tally was 409 players. According to the BCCI, 246 of these players are Indian, while the remaining 168 are foreigners.

Each side will have a budget of Rs 12 crore and must buy a minimum of 15 players and a maximum of 18 at the player auction this month. For the starting eleven, up to five international players, including one from an associate member country, may be selected.

22 games will make up the first season, with the league stage’s top-ranked team automatically advancing to the title game. A position in the championship game will be up for grabs between the second and third-placed clubs.
