BANGLADESH. Coxsbazar. The Nabi-Hossain group, a formidable bandit force of the Rohingya camp, has been active at Bangladesh’s Zero Point on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border for 10 days, according to an Armed Police Battalion officer.

Although the activities of the Nabi-Hossain in Nayapara Muchni camp were active a year and a half ago, the activities of Nabi-Hossain group had ceased, returning to Malaysia. Rohingya Nabi-Hossain, Yunus, Maulvi Ayub other Rohingya-led groups are each heavily armed forces active at the border.

The terror of the camp is being fueled by the ‘robber force’ or ‘Nabi-Hossain’ group according to the Myanmar government itself, creating panic among the ordinary Rohingyas, obstructing repatriation work, and threatening to kill Rohingyas willing to return. For 10 days, the law enforcement agencies have not been able to determine exactly what the Nabi-Hossain group is planning to do at the Bangladesh Zero Point on the Myanmar border.

Troop increase at the border

Bangladesh has expressed concern over the sudden patrol of the Myanmar army on the border. The Myanmar army has been seen using civilian vehicles and fishing boats in patrols. This is considered suspicious by the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh.

Armed Police Battalion Commanding Officer Md. Hemayetul Islam told Transcontinental Times, “ We are not sure, but with the help of the Myanmar army, the Nabi Hossain group is becoming active again.” Asked if there was any reason behind the use of civilian transport like Fishing boats in Myanmar’s military patrols, he said, “The Myanmar army was helping some Rohingya groups to disrupt discipline and prevent repatriation in Rohingya camps. The use of civilian Fishing boats may mean that they seek to establish contact with the boatmen so that they can easily assist their support groups. It is suspected that Myanmar is helping the long-inactive terrorist group. In this case, our intelligence is being monitored, if they try to carry out an armed attack, we will resist, and legal action will be taken.”

Fear of escalation at the camps

Myanmar army has stepped up patrols in the 3 areas of Ka Nyun Chua, Min Galargi, and Gar Khuya on the Myanmar border. Political analysts say the three Muslim-majority areas could be a source of panic for Myanmar’s military patrols. Analysts fear that Myanmar’s Rohingya will once again gather at the border if panic erupts.

Although arranging formal repatriation several times, none of the Rohingyas agreed to go back to Myanmar. Clashes between the Rohingyas and law enforcement are happening every day, including ransoms and general chaos.

Talks of repatriation trigger instability

Faridul Alam, an international relations analyst and associate professor in the Department of International Relations at the University of Chittagong, told Transcontinental Times that whenever an issue or date of repatriation is fixed, various groups of Rohingyas become involved in the conflict and create instability in the camp. This causes panic among the ordinary Rohingyas. Regarding the patrolling of the Myanmar Army Bangladesh with additional troops on the Myanmar border, he said that an application has been made to the ICC court in Bangladesh.

Psychological terrorism

A study by Faridul Alam has highlighted the Rohingya terrorist groups. According to his research, the Nabi Hossain group is active in Bangladesh’s Zero Point. He said, Bangladesh has more than 36 smuggling syndicates active on the Myanmar border. Rohingyas actively control some syndicates and control all other syndicates including locals and Rohingyas. They smuggle weapons, drugs, and oil. “In that case, I don’t think the Myanmar army has anything to do with the activation of the Nabi Hussein group border. However, with the active help of Myanmar, some Myanmar Rohingya agents work in the Rohingya camps. They become active at different times and cause chaos.”

Alleged ties to Saudi Arabia

Myanmar will hold national elections next November. With this, the Myanmar army is attacking the Rohingya villages with the aim of gaining a majority. They seek control of the Myanmar’s Buddhists by continuing murder, rape, and house burning. Myanmar has recently removed the names of Rohingya villages in Rakhine from the map. With this, the Myanmar army is advancing with the aim of winning the hearts of the religious majority.

Anthropologist and Professor of Anthropology at Chittagong University, Dr. Rahman Nasir Uddin told Transcontinental Times that two Myanmar troops were imprisoned by the Arakan Army, another solidarity group and this could be fueling the border rally. Another provocation is the discovery that the Myanmar army Ataullah, led by Arsa, is being funded by 20 people living in Saudi Arabia. It is not clear whether they are Rohingya or Saudi nationals. However, there is no patrol or coordination on the border of Myanmar army for the Nabi Hossain group to be active.
