‘The Wire’ Actor Michael K. Williams Found Dead In New York

According to the reports, his death is suspected to be a result of a possible drug overdose

UNITED STATES: Actor Michael K. Williams was found dead in his Brooklyn penthouse apartment on Monday afternoon. Williams’ family members informed the New York police about the actor’s demise.


The 54-year-old actor rose to fame after playing the role of Omar Little on “The Wire”. Williams’ character was loved by the masses. Little, a “stick-up boy” based on real figures from Baltimore, was probably the most popular character among the devoted fans of “The Wire”. The HBO TV series ran from 2002 to 2008 and is re-watched constantly in streaming.

According to the reports, his death is suspected to be a result of a possible drug overdose. The medical examiners are still investigating the cause of death.


The news of the sudden demise of five-time Emmy nominated actor Michael K. Williams shook the entire film fraternity. Many Hollywood celebrities expressed grief over the actor’s loss on their social media handles.

Williams has been acting on other shows and films for more than two decades. He played the role of Chalky White in HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” from 2010-2014. Along with this, he also appeared in “12 Years a Slave” and “Assassin’s Creed.”

He is up for an Emmy for his role in HBO’s “Lovecraft Country.”
Williams, who had worked in tiny TV roles and as a backup dancer for hip-hop acts before landing the role, had said that reputation started to stick to him in real life.


Talking about this character, Williams said, “Most people who saw me on the street called me “Omar”. He added that he never really resembled the character. “I could never be Omar,” he told Stephen Colbert in his show. “I didn’t have the balls that dude had.”
