ADG K R Suresh Takes over as the Coast Guard Commander, Western Seaboard

INDIA. Mumbai: Deputy Director General (DDG) (Operations and Coastal Security), Kandambakkam Ramani Suresh, on promotion as the Additional Director General, Indian Coast Guard (ICG), took over as the Coast Guard Commander (Western Seaboard), Mumbai on Tuesday.

Before his appointment to Western Seaboard, he carried out the duties as DDG at Coast Guard Headquarters New Delhi for over 04 years. He oversaw the successful execution of major operations for the ICG.

In accordance with a statement released by the ICG on Wednesday, the Flag Officer will be in charge of the Western Seaboard Sector of the ICG, which includes Coast Guard Regions (West) and (Northwest). This sector is responsible for the ocean security of the strategic maritime boundaries between Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Daman, Diu, Karnataka, and Kerala, as well as the Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands.

In his 35 years of outstanding service, ADG Suresh has held various important command and staff appointments, both afloat and ashore. He has commanded Indian Coast Guard ships — Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel “Sagar”, Offshore Patrol Vessel “Varuna”, Fast Patrol Vessel “Annie Besant”, and Inshore Patrol Vessel “Kittur Chennamma”. His important command appointments ashore include the Commander, Coast Guard Region (Andaman and Nicobar), Commander, Coast Guard District No.3 (Karnataka), and the Commanding Officer, ICGS “Mandapam”.

The Flag Officer is a specialist Communication and Electronic Warfare Officer. He is an alumnus of the prestigious National Defence College New Delhi, Naval Higher Command Course, Karanja (Raigad, Maharashtra), and Defence Services Staff College, Wellington (Tamil Nadu).

He also has various academic achievements viz M.Sc (Telecommunications), M.Sc (Defence Strategic Studies), M.Phil (Defence Strategic Studies), PGDBA in OPS MGMT, and PGDBA in HRM with core specialization in Mathematics from the University of Madras.

He is a recipient of the prestigious President’s “Tatrakshak” medal for his distinguished service to the nation. He was awarded Special Operation Badge – for successful maritime safety operations on the Sri Lankan coast in 2020 and 2021 by the Director General, ICG.
