INDIA. Mumbai: At least four people were killed and many others injured when a fire broke out in a private hospital located on Nagpur-Amravati road in Nagpur in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra on Friday night.

The fire broke out at “Well treat Hospital” located at Pooja Chambers at Wadi at about 7.45 pm sending panic waves among the citizens since the city is already under the grip of fast-spreading coronavirus. Soon fire tenders from the MIDC fire brigade and Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s fire brigade and ambulances rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control by 9.30 PM. However, by that some of the patients already suffered from asphyxiation.

A doctor and a ward boy were injured due to glowing embers. One of the deceased was identified as Tulshiram Pal, while the attempts were on to identify others.

“The fire reportedly started from an AC unit of the ICU located on the second floor of the hospital. The blaze remained confined to that floor and did not spread further,” Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) chief fire officer Rajendra Uchke said. The hospital was not treating any COVID-19 patients. “There were 10 patients on the second floor when the fire erupted. While six patients came out on their own, four others were rescued by the fire brigade personnel,” he added.
