UNITED STATES: Charles Oliveira submits Dustin Poirier in the 3rd round to successfully defend his UFC lightweight title for the first time. UFC 269 was full of shocking upsets and vicious knockouts.

UFC 269 also set the record for the biggest gate ever in T-Mobile Arena for a UFC card that doesn’t include Conor McGregor.

Dustin Poirier Vs Charles Oliveira

In the main event, the no.1 ranked UFC lightweight Dustin Poirier was fighting against the UFC lightweight Champion Charles Oliveira. This fight was full of fireworks as both the fighters started exchanging blows from the very first round.

Dustin Poirier knocked Oliveira multiple times in the first round and it was looking like the Oliveira won’t even make it out of the first round but somehow Oliveira managed to survive the first round in which Poirier outstruck him on significant strikes.

In the Second Round, Charles Oliveira instantly took Dustin Poirier down and started striking him with elbows. Dustin Poirier was looking way more exhausted than Charles Oliveira. Oliveria was so dominant in the second round that two out of three judges scored the round 10-8 in the favor of Charles Oliveira.

In the third round, Oliveira continued his 2nd round dominance and got on the back of Dustin Poirier and then choked him at 1 min and 2 seconds of round 3 to retain his title.

Julianna Pena vs Amanda Nunes

Julianna Pena submitted the two-division UFC champion Amanda Nunes to win the Women’s bantamweight title. This was considered as one of the biggest upsets in UFC history.

Amanda Nunes is considered a legend in the women’s division and she was a -850 favorite going into this fight but Julianna Pena proved that anything can happen in the sport of UFC.

In the first round of this fight, Amanda Nunes landed the harder and cleaner shots but Julianna Pena didn’t back out and kept challenging Amanda Nunes’s gas tank.

The second round started with both women exchanging hard punches against each other. Julianna Pena landed some big shots and she was successful in his attempt to takedown Amanda Nunes and after that, she finished the fight at 3 mins and 26 seconds in round 2 by a rear-naked choke.

Cody Garbrandt vs Kai Kara-France

This fight was very important for Cody Garbrandt as he was 1-4 in his last five fights. This was also his flyweight debut as he decided to move down from bantamweight to flyweight.

Everyone thought that Cody Garbrandt would get the size and reach advantage but the speed and accuracy of Kai Kara-France were too much for Cody.

Kai Kara-France landed some hard punches which had Cody Garbrandt hurt and at 3 mins and 21 seconds of round 1, Kai Kara-France defeated Cody Garbrandt by TKO (Technical Knockout).

After defeating Cody Garbrandt Kai Kara-France is now on a 2 fight winning streak whereas the future of the former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt is unclear as he is now on a 1-5 in his last 6 fights.
