INDIA: After a box office smash, Haryana, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh have declared Kashmir files tax-free. The film debuted with 3.55 crore on Friday and doubled with 8.50 crore on Saturday, for 12.05 crore.

The Haryana government announced on Friday that the Kashmir Files will not be subject to taxation and that theatres and cinemas will not be required to collect GST when screening films—following in the footsteps of Haryana. Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat governments announced that the film will be tax-free.

Following Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat declared the movie tax-free

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, made the news on his Twitter account. He tweeted, “Movie #TheKashmirFiles is a heartbreaking narrative of the grief, suffering, struggle, and trauma experienced by Kashmiri Hindus in the 1990s.” We have decided to make it tax-free throughout the state of Madhya Pradesh because this needs to be seen by as many people as possible.

In response to Chief Minister’s tweet, Vivek Agnihotri, director of The Kashmir Files, praised him. He tweeted, “Both Pallavi Joshi and I are Madhya Pradesh natives. And the amount of love and support that MP has shown for #TheKashmirFiles is incredible. Thank you so much, @ChouhanShivrajji. You’ve always prioritized the common man. You are a true Mama Ji.”

Following the announcements by Haryana and Madhya Pradesh that the film would be tax-free, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel confirmed that the film would be GST-free. Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel’s office tweeted, “In the state of Gujarat, Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel has agreed to provide tax exemption to the film The Kashmir Files.”

In response to the tweet, Director Vivek Agnihotri replied, “Honorable @CMOGuj @Bhupendrapbjp thank you very much. This would allow the people of Gujarat to see the darkest catastrophe in the country’s history @kp global.”
