INDIA: The first 5G spectrum auction for India is scheduled to begin on July 26, 2022 (today), and the country’s four domestic companies will compete for that spectrum to launch 5G in 2023. Some well-known mobile operator names are on the list of businesses that will compete for the 5G spectrum in India, but one of them caught everyone by surprise.

The term “5G” refers to the fifth generation of mobile high-speed internet, which offers breakneck download speeds that support innovations like autonomous automobiles and virtual reality.

The frequency bands 600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1,800 MHz, 2,100 MHz, 2,300 MHz, 3,300 MHz, and 26 GHz will be the subject of the auction.

The nation is prepared to advance significantly towards the 5G future with the start of its largest-ever spectrum auction. Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea, and Adani Data Networks, a unit of the Adani Group, will all participate in the auction for a total of 72 GHz of airwaves.

They have provided the Department of Telecommunications(DOT) with earnest money deposits (EMDs), a significant indicator of their intention to bid. Reliance Jio has invested $14,000 billion, compared to $5,500 billion from Bharti Airtel, $2,200 billion from Vodafone Idea, and $100 billion from the Adani Group.

The total EMD of the four applicants vying for 5G radio waves this time is Rs. 21,800 crores, which is significantly more than the Rs. 13,475 crores put in the 2021 auction when there were three competitors for the 5 bids.
