US Announces $1 Billion in Additional Security Assistance For Ukraine

The package adds to about $8.8 billion in aid the United States has provided to Ukraine since the February 24 Russian invasion

UNITED STATES/UKRAINE: The United States will provide $1 billion in security assistance to Ukraine, the single largest package using the president’s drawdown authority, including ammunition for long-range weapons and armoured medical transport vehicles, acting Pentagon spokesman Todd Breasseale said Monday.

The package adds to about $8.8 billion in aid the United States has provided to Ukraine since the February 24 Russian invasion. It includes munitions for HIMARS, ammunition for the NASAMS surface-to-air missile system, and up to 50 M113 armoured personnel carriers.

The package also includes more surface-to-air missiles for defence against Russian aircraft and rockets, more Javelin anti-armour rockets, and other ammunition, according to a statement from the US Department of Defense.

In total, the United States has now given approximately $9.8 billion in security assistance to Ukraine since the beginning of the Biden administration. Since 2014, the United States has allocated more than $11.8 billion in security assistance to Ukraine.

To meet Ukraine’s evolving battlefield requirements, the United States will continue to work with its allies and partners to provide Ukraine with key capabilities calibrated to make a difference.

Facilities in This Package Include:

  • Additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS);
  •  75,000 rounds of 155mm artillery ammunition;
  •  20 120mm mortar systems and 20,000 rounds of 120mm mortar ammunition;
  •  Munitions for National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS);
  • 1,000 Javelin and hundreds of AT4 anti-armor systems;
  • 50 armored medical treatment vehicles;
  • Claymore anti-personnel munitions;
  • C-4 explosives, demolition munitions, and demolition equipment;
  • Medical supplies, to include first aid kits, bandages, monitors, and other equipment.
