INDIA. Karnataka: The Congress party chief Mallikarjun Kharge is in legal trouble as the leader promised to ban Bajrang Dal in Karnataka ahead of the poll. The Punjab court in Sangrur district summoned the Congress supremo in a Rs 100 crore defamation case.

The founder of Hindu Suraksha Parishad Bajrang Dal Hind, Hitesh Bhardwaj, lodged a defamation case in the local court against the AICC president for defamatory remarks against the Hindu wing.

According to the founder, Kharge compares the Bajrang Dal with “anti-national organisations like SIMI and Al-Qaeda”. The Congress manifesto reads, “The Congress Party is committed to taking firm and decisive action against individuals and organisations spreading hatred amongst communities on the grounds of caste or religion. We believe that the law and Constitution are sacrosanct and can not be violated by individuals and Organisations like Bajrang Dal, PFI or others promoting enmity or hatred, whether among majority or minority communities.”

Now reflecting the manifesto, Bhardwaj’s petitioner’s lawyer, Lalit Garg, said, “The comparison of the Bajrang Dal with the PFI has impaired the name and honour of the members of the Bajrang Dal and the Hindu Suraksha Parishad, who number in the crores, and also defames the followers of Lord Hanuman, who is reverentially worshipped by crores of Hindu practitioners and others.” Thus, the petitioner demanded an amount for causing injury to their reputation and honour.

In the latest elections in Karnataka, the Congress party won 135 of the total 224 Assembly seats, defeating the Saffron party. Now the grand old party clarified that they had “no proposal to ban the Bajrang Dal” because banning an organisation like it came under the central government. However, more reactions would be expected from the party’s side against the defamation suit.
