Hollywood Meets Bollywood: Steven Seagal’s Steamroller Productions Expands Into India

U.S. action star teams up with Indian filmmaker Vikash Verma to launch cross-border film projects

Published:

INDIA: Hollywood actor and producer Steven Seagal has announced the expansion of his production company, Steamroller Steven Seagal Productions, into India. The move establishes a new partnership with Indian filmmaker Vikash Verma, who will oversee the company’s operations in the country.

The collaboration signals a fresh chapter in cross-border cinema, aiming to bring together Hollywood’s action-oriented filmmaking traditions with Bollywood’s storytelling styles. “Our goal is to redefine action cinema in India by blending East and West into something unique,” Seagal said in a statement.

Partnership Structure and Objectives

Verma, who heads G7 Films and has family ties to the late Bollywood producer-director Rajkumar Kohli, will manage the Indian branch of the company. He will also collaborate directly with Seagal and Dominic Seagal, Steven Seagal’s son, in developing new projects under the banner.

According to the companies, the alliance will focus on action and thriller films that can appeal to both Indian and international audiences. One of the key figures in the partnership is actor Dhruv Verma, Vikash Verma’s son, who is being positioned as a central figure in upcoming productions.

In a joint announcement, the partners emphasized their shared vision of “action-driven, emotionally resonant cinema” capable of attracting audiences across multiple continents.

Reviving “The Good Maharaja”

One of the first projects to come under the new arrangement is The Good Maharaja, a World War II drama directed by Vikash Verma. The film tells the story of Maharaja Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji Jadeja of Nawanagar, who is remembered for sheltering Polish children displaced during the war.

The project, originally delayed due to complications arising from the Russia–Ukraine conflict, has now been revived with financial and creative backing from Steamroller Productions. The film is scheduled for worldwide release on December 18, 2026, with Dominic Seagal serving as executive producer.

The production, described as a high-budget period drama, will be one of the rare Indo-Hollywood films centered on historical themes with international scope.

Expanding into International Collaborations

Alongside The Good Maharaja, the new partnership is also negotiating involvement in No Means No, a film described as the first Indo-Polish co-production. The project, which has been in development under the G7 Films Poland banner, represents another example of the group’s interest in forging global creative alliances.

While final details are still under discussion, the companies indicated that these projects could pave the way for larger Indo-Hollywood-Polish ventures, linking three different film industries in a manner seldom attempted before.

Industry Response

The announcement has drawn attention across Bollywood, with several well-known actors and filmmakers commenting on the development.

Actor Sanjay Dutt expressed his support for Vikash Verma’s role in the partnership, while fellow actor Suniel Shetty spoke about his anticipation for large-scale action films emerging from the collaboration.

Industry veteran Shekhar Suman described the move as a purposeful step toward international cooperation, and actor Gulshan Grover noted the potential for impactful cross-border projects.

Film critic Taran Adarsh also weighed in, characterizing the initiative as a significant development in Verma’s career and in Indo-Hollywood partnerships more broadly.

Steamroller Productions: Background

Steamroller Steven Seagal Productions was founded in 1990 as a vehicle for action-oriented films, often starring Seagal himself. The company has produced several action thrillers with international distribution, though it has been relatively quiet in recent years. Its expansion into India marks a strategic shift toward global production partnerships rather than solely Hollywood-based projects.

Seagal, known for his martial arts background and action films in the 1990s, remains a recognizable figure internationally, though his career trajectory has moved more toward independent productions in the past two decades.

G7 Films and Vikash Verma

G7 Films, led by Vikash Verma, has positioned itself as a production company with ambitions beyond the domestic Indian market. Verma has previously worked on projects aimed at both Indian and European audiences, particularly through G7 Films’ Poland branch.

His upcoming leadership role within Steamroller’s Indian operations will involve developing stories that maintain Indian cultural elements while appealing to international viewers.

Assessing the Move

Industry analysts note that while cross-border partnerships are not new, the combination of Seagal’s Hollywood brand of action cinema with Bollywood’s scale and storytelling could yield interesting results, provided the projects are able to secure both financing and distribution.

Observers also point to the growing importance of global co-productions, as streaming platforms and international box office markets continue to blur boundaries between local and foreign films.

The partnership’s success will likely depend on how effectively it balances Indian cultural narratives with action-oriented filmmaking that resonates globally.

With The Good Maharaja slated for release in 2026 and other projects under discussion, the collaboration is still in its early stages. However, the announcement has already created momentum in industry circles, as Indian and Hollywood professionals watch to see whether this alliance can deliver on its promises.

For now, the expansion of Steamroller Productions into India represents both an opportunity and a test: whether the blending of two film traditions—Hollywood action and Bollywood storytelling—can create films that resonate with audiences worldwide.
