Sydney Sixers Started Their Big Bash Campaign With a Ferocious Win Over Melbourne Stars

AUSTRALIA: Defending champions Sydney Sixers defeats Melbourne Stars by 152 runs in the first match of Big Bash League 2021-22. This was the biggest win in Big Bash history in terms of runs. Sidney Sixers dominated the Melbourne Stars right from the beginning of this match.

In this match after winning the toss, Melbourne Stars opted to bowl first. Glenn Maxwell was captaining the Melbourne Stars whereas Moises Henriques was captaining the Sydney sixers.

Philippe and Vince gave Sydney Sixers a fiery start

Josh Philippe and James Vince opened the innings from the Sidney Sixers’ side. Both the batsmen gave the Sixers a thunderous start as they both added 84 runs in just 9 overs.

Glenn Maxwell gave the first breakthrough as he picked up the wicket of James Vince who scored 44 runs off 29 deliveries which included 6 fours and after 9.4 overs Sidney Sixers were 90/1.

After the fall of Vince, Moises Henriques joined Josh Philippe in the middle and they both just destroyed the Melbourne Stars bowling unit. They both stitched 102 runs partnership.

Josh Philippe got out after scoring a marvelous 83 runs off 47 deliveries which included 8 fours and 3 sixes. When he got out Sydney Sixers were 192/2 after 18.1 overs.

Moises Henriques also played a stunning knock of 76 runs off 38 deliveries which included 8 fours and 3 sixes. With the help of these 2 half-centuries, Sydney Sixers posted a total of 213/4 at the end of 20 overs.

For Melbourne Stars, Brody Couch picked 2 wickets while Sam Rainbird and Glenn Maxwell took 1 wicket each.

Melbourne Stars Collapses like a deck of cards

Melbourne Stars never looked like they are going to chase down the target as they kept losing wickets in very quick successions. Melbourne Stars lost their 2 wickets in the very first over.

At the first ball of the 4th over, Melbourne Stars lost the wicket of their captain Glenn Maxwell and after the end of the powerplay, Melbourne Stars were 41/5.

Sydney Sixers bowlers were all over the Melbourne Stars batting lineup. Hayden Kerr, Steve OKeefe, and Sean Abbott destroyed the batting of Melbourne Stars.

Peter Nevill (18) and Hilton Cartwright (10) were the only batsmen from the Melbourne Stars side who scored in double digits and as a result, Melbourne Stars got bundled out for just 61 runs after 11.1 overs.

For Sidney Sixers, Steve OKeefe took 4 wickets, Sean Abbott took 3 wickets, Hayden Kerr picked 2 wickets and Tom Curran took 1 wicket.
