UNITED STATES. New Mexico: American actor Alec Baldwin accidentally shot a prop firearm and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of his upcoming film ‘Rust’ in New Mexico on Thursday. Hutchins was transported by helicopter to the University of New Mexico Hospital after the accident. The 42-year-old cinematographer was declared dead after reaching the hospital.
According to the reports, film director Joel Souza was also fatally injured in the accident. Director Joel Souza was rushed to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center and was reportedly in critical condition. The cast and crew of ‘Rust’ are mourning the tragic demise of Hutchins.
Hutchins is known for working on movies like Archenemy (2020), Darlin’ (2019), and Blindfire (2020).
Meanwhile, Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department said that an investigation was underway and no charges have been filed yet. The investigation is currently looking at how and what type of prop firearm was discharged during the tragic accident.
A spokesperson from the production informed that the film shooting has been halted for some time.
“The safety of the cast and crew remains our top priority,” the spokesperson added.

The eldest of the four brothers in the Baldwin family, he gained worldwide fame for his role in the primetime soap opera ‘Knots Landing’. Throughout his career, Baldwin has been nominated for various prestigious awards. He is a recipient of three Primetime Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and eight Screen Actors Guild Awards.
‘Rust’ also stars Frances Fisher, Jensen Ackles, and Travis Fimmel in prominent roles. The movie is based on the infamous Western outlaw Harland Rust.
