After losing the first wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root early on, England’s batsmen Ben Stokes and Dawid Malan worked well together to spearhead their team’s recovery. Adam Zampa and Mitchell Starc were attempting to get wickets.

Mitchell Starc showcased his blistering pace, delivering a fiery first ball that shattered England opener Jonny Bairstow’s stumps, setting the tone for Australia’s pursuit of a 287-run target. Joe Root strolled to the crease to continue the chase after a fantastic start from Australia.

Despite England being out of form, Australia’s formidable batting line was unable to hold the opposition off as the squad was all out for 286 runs. Mark Wood and Adil Rashid each took two wickets, and Chris Woakes secured four wickets to stop Australia’s respectable total. Cameron Green made 47 runs, but Marnus Labuschagne hit Australia’s best score of 71.

England’s Adil Rashid claimed consecutive wickets to quickly remove Josh Inglis and Steve Smith from the game. As Cameron Green approached the crease, England was rallying in the game.

After Australian team lost their opening games, Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne, who were in a good hitting tandem, managed to steady the innings.

Australia’s playing XI saw two forced changes, with Marcus Stoinis and Cameron Green replacing Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell, respectively. England had chosen to support the same team.

With only 1 victory in 6 games and a low standing in the ICC World Cup points table, England has had a terrible World Cup defence. The team led by Jos Buttler hasn’t defeated opponents like Afghanistan and Sri Lanka.
