A sizeable number of tinsel town personalities attended the funeral

INDIA: The mortal remains of veteran Bollywood singer-music director Bappi Lahiri, who passed away on Tuesday night, were handed down to flames at a crematorium in Vile Parle West in northwest Mumbai, in the presence of his relatives and well-wishers on Thursday.

A sizable number of tinsel town personalities were present at the funeral. They included noted singer Alka Yagnik, actress-singer Ila Arun, Shaan, Abhijit Bhattacharya, Udit Narayan, actress Vidya Balan, Mika Singh, and Vindu Dara Singh, Music Director Jatin Pandit, Bhushan Kumar, and actor Shakti Kapoor.

Bappi’s son Bappa Lahiri who arrived from Los Angeles (USA) in the wee hours of Thursday, lit the funeral pyre, even as his sister Rema, mother Chitrani, and brother-in-law Gobind Bansal wept inconsolably.

Bappi Lahiri’s deceased body was taken from his residence at Lahiri House at Juhu to the crematorium in a flower-studded open truck to enable people to pay respect to their favorite composer and singer.

Bappi Lahiri breathed his last on February 15 at the Criticare Hospital in Juhu. Bappi Lahiri was admitted to the hospital for a month and was discharged on Monday. But his health deteriorated on Tuesday, and his family called for a doctor to visit their home. He was brought to the hospital. He had multiple health issues. He died due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) shortly before midnight. The news of his sudden demise broke on Wednesday. He was 69. The veteran singer had tested positive for Covid-19 in April last year but had overcome the illness.

Several Bollywood personalities, including actress Kajol and her mother, actress Tanuja, singer Shreya Ghoshal had visited the residence of Bappi Lahiri to console the grieving family on Wednesday. Many others, including Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgan, had offered their condolences through Twitter.
