INDIA. Mumbai: A multi-seat auditorium in the name of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar is already functional at Mira Bhayandar near Mumbai, and an international music college set up at Kalina is also gearing up, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde stated while addressing a gathering at a musical concert organised on the occasion of the first death anniversary of the legendary singer on Monday night.
In a programme called “Latanjali: A Musical Journey,” organised at Sri Shanmukha Fine Arts & Sangeetha Sabha at Matunga in Central Mumbai, a host of Bollywood personalities, including veteran actress Asha Parekh, actress and MP Hema Malini, Music Director Pyarelal Sharma (of the Laxmikant Pyarelal musical duo), Music Director Anandji (of the Kalyanji-Anandji musical duo), Actresses: Moushumi Chatterjee, Reena Roy, Padmini Kolhapure, Kajol, Raveena Tandon, Singers: Suresh Wadkar, Sadhana Sargam, Bela Shende,Lata’s nephew, Adinath Hridaynath Mangeshkar, reminisced and shared their experiences with Latadidi.
Shinde said in his speech that Lata’s voice, which traversed beyond borders, has been and is part of life, and in a fitting tribute, the “Bharat Ratna Lata Dinanath Mangeshkar International Music College & Museum” has been set up at the Kalina Campus of the University of Mumbai in North West Mumbai.
All assistance would be rendered to ensure its effective functioning so that the national and international students wanting to pursue careers in music could take advantage of it.
The college was launched in September last year, on the 93rd birth anniversary of the legendary singer who passed away on February 6, 2022.after enthralling millions with her divine voice for almost eight decades.
The college seeks to offer the first six certificate courses of one year each in Hindustani classical music: Indian flute, tabla, sitar, and harmonium or keyboard.
Besides, an auditorium Bharat Ratna Gaansamragyi Lata Mangeshkar Natya Gruha Auditorium) equipped with 900 seats (with a 300-seat mini theatre) set up by the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation has become functional, catering to the needs of theatre lovers.
On Monday, the seasoned singers—Sadhana Sargam, Bela Shende, Sampda Goswami, Sharyu Date, and Nirupama Dey enthralled the audience with their renditions of memorable songs by Lata Mangeshkar. The concert was organised by BJP MLA Ashish Shelar.
