INDIA: India is matching up to the speed of a Horse, in terms of accumulating Gold medals in the Commonwealth Game. India by far won four gold, three silver and three bronze in this edition.
The latest gold is achieved by the Indian women’s fours lawn bowls team. The team made history by defeating South Africa 17-10 in the final. The dynamic team includes Lovely Choubey, Rupa Rani Tirkey, Pinki and Nayanmoni Saikia; they became the first Indians in Commonwealth history to win a gold medal in Lawn Bowls.
India is yet to achieve more yellow medals as the men’s table tennis team is in the manoeuvre against Singapore, standing a lead with leading 1-0. In Athletics, Murali Sreeshankar and Muhammed Anas Yahiya have made their way to the men’s long jump final.
In squash, Saurav Ghosal will face New Zealand’s Paul Coll in the men’s singles semi-final. In artistic gymnastics, Satyajit Mondal will be in action in the men’s vault final and Saif Sadak Tamboli will be in the front barrier to the parallel bars finals.
It was a stroke of hard luck for weightlifter Punam Yadav, she failed in her three clean and jerk lifts and failed to make her way from the women’s 76kg category. India’s Srihari Nataraj has marked the perfect timing of 2:00.84 and has placed himself in the ninth position.
The weightlifters Vikas Thakur (Men’s 96 kg) and Usha Bannaur NK (women’s 87 kg) also joined the race. In terms of boxing, Rohit Tokas will play his welterweight round of 16 matches. India now aims to increase their gold medal tally as the Indian badminton team participated against Malaysia in the Mixed Team final in the evening.
