INDIA: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured a thrilling last-ball victory against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Monday. However, the match was not without its share of controversy and penalties.

Avesh Khan, the No. 11 batsman for LSG, was on strike when the game’s final ball was bowled, but he was unable to make contact with the ball; it went straight to the wicketkeeper. However, the wicketkeeper fumbled the ball, allowing Avesh to score a single and give his team the victory.

Avesh finished the winning run and flung his helmet on the ground in his enthusiasm. Avesh received a reprimand for violating the Code of Conduct with this aggressive behaviour. He acknowledged a level 1 violation of IPL Rule 2.2 and consented to the punishment.

On the other hand, RCB captain Faf du Plessis was fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match. The IPL Governing Council penalized RCB for failing to finish their quota of overs in due time. The skipper was punished since this was the team’s first season-opening violation of the IPL’s Code of Conduct regarding minimum over-rate infractions.

The match referee’s determination for level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct is final and binding. Avesh received a formal warning, and no financial penalty was imposed on him.

In the end, penalties and controversies made it hard for Lucknow Super Giants to beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by one wicket in the IPL 2023. While Avesh Khan was reprimanded for his aggressive behaviour, RCB captain Faf du Plessis was fined for a slow over-rate.
