INDIA: The 12th edition of the “DefExpo 2022”, was held at the Sabarmati river front in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. “DefExpo 2022” began with a colourful start with daredevil acts by armed forces in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat on Tuesday.

The “DefExpo 2022” has been organised with the participation of the Armed Forces contingent, comprising personnel from the Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, along with scientists from the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO), till Saturday, October 22.

The “DefExpo” aims to bring new technologies and solutions in the field of defence exclusively to Indian companies, in line with the call by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for self-reliance.

It is the flagship event of the Indian Defence Ministry and one of the largest of its kind, being held in the twin cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in Gujarat.

The display on the inaugural day was aimed at showcasing the operational readiness and scientific prowess of the defence forces to the people. An official statement read: “It comprises the air, surface, and sub-surface elements of the Armed Forces.”

“DefExpo” started with an eye-catching combat free fall by personnel of the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. It was followed by a daring display by the elite Marine Commandos (Marcos) of the Indian Navy and Para (SF) Commandos of the Indian Army, skillfully slithering onto a boat from a helicopter, a high speed run by the Gemini boat, and the neutralisation of an enemy post.

The action, thereafter, again shifted to the sky with awe-inspiring helobatics (aerobatics by helicopters) by the Sarang Team and powered hang glider flying by the Indian Air Force.

The other activities undertaken were search and rescue demonstrations by the Coast Guard; Small Team Insertion and Extraction; a scintillating offensive demonstration by the Indian Navy; continuity drill by the Indian Air Force; “Ro’ Boatics” display by the DRDO; and a joint band display by the three services.

The programme culminated with the Tattoo ceremony by the drummers from the Indian Navy.

The theme of the expo is “Path to Pride”. It allows participants to showcase their equipment and platforms while also exploring the strengths and capabilities of the Indian defence industry and forging business partnerships.

As part of the expo, a live demonstration by the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and DRDO, showcasing land, naval, and air procedures and systems in action, is being held daily from 4:45 pm onwards at the Sabarmati River Front.
