SRI LANKA: India defeats Sri Lanka by 7 wickets to win the first ODI of the 3 matches ODI series between India and Sri Lanka. After winning the toss Sri Lanka decided to bat first. Sri Lanka had a decent opening partnership, their openers stitched a 49 run partnership. Yuzvendra Chahal broke Sri Lanka’s opening partnership when he took the wicket of Avishka Fernando in the first ball of his first over. After that Sri Lanka started losing wickets in quick successions. Kuldeep Yadav picked 2 wickets to derail the Sri Lankan batting. After that Krunal Pandya took the wicket of Dhananjaya de Silva and Sri Lanka was 117/4 after 24.4 overs.
After that Dasun Shanaka and Charith Asalanka tried to build a partnership and they both were trying to put a competitive total on the board. After they both got out Sri Lanka was 205/7 after 43.5 overs. But Chamika Karunaratne played a really good inning from down the order. He scored 43 off 35 deliveries which included 1 four and 2 sixes and he took Sri Lanka to a competitive total of 262/9 at the end of 50 overs. From the Indian side, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, and Deepak Chahar took 2 wickets apiece and Krunal Pandya and Hardik Pandya both took 1-1 wicket.
The Indian team had to score 263 runs in 50 overs to win the match. Indian innings started with a bang with opener Prithvi Shaw destroying the Sri Lankan bowlers. Prithvi Scored 43 off just 24 which included 9 fours. When he got out, India was 58/1 after 5.3 overs. After his wicket, Ishan Kishan joined the Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan and he also started his innings with a bang as he scored a six at the first ball that he faced. After that, he scored a four in the next delivery. Ishan Kishan scored 59 off 42 deliveries which included 8 fours and 2 sixes. After Ishan got dismissed by Lakshan Sandakan, India was 143/2 after 17.5 overs. After that Manish Pandey came out to bat and he stitched a 72 run partnership with Shikhar Dhawan. During that partnership, Dhawan also completed his 34th ODI fifty. After Manish Pandey got out, India was already in a winning position, they needed just 47 runs if 116 deliveries.
Then after the departure of Manish Pandey Suryakumar Yadav came out to bat and he scored a quickfire 31 off just 20 deliveries to take India home and win the first match of this 3 match ODI series against Sri Lanka. Indian Captain Shikhar Dhawan was the top performer of this match as he scored a match-winning 86 off just 95 deliveries which included 6 fours and 1 six.
