INDIA: Karan Johar, the renowned Bollywood filmmaker, has been awarded by the British Parliament for his contributions to the worldwide entertainment industry. The Baroness Verma of Leicester arranged the grand event with members of Parliament in the presence of Lord Desai, Baroness Uddin, and Rt Hon Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi MP, as well as British Asian trailblazers, influencers and community leaders.
The ace director has just completed 25 glorious years in Bollywood. On completion of the silver jubilee, Johar unveiled the teaser of his upcoming big-budget movie, Rocky Aur RKii Prem Kahaani, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt.
Karan shared pictures of the proud moment while receiving the certificate via his social media handles. Karan wrote,“Today has been SUCH A SPECIAL day! I am fortunate and deeply grateful to be honoured at the British House of Parliament in London by the esteemed Baroness Verma of Leicester. We celebrated my 25th year as a filmmaker in the film industry, and I launched the teaser for #RockyAurRaniKiiPremKahaani too!”
The Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham director further added, “It’s one of those days where I pinch myself and realise that dreams do come true. Thank you, everyone, for the unabashed love you have shown me on my journey. And I promise you, there is more to come! @ukparliament.”
Karan Johar made his directorial debut with the blockbuster Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1998, and since then there has been no looking back. His Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and My Name Is Khan also bagged the title of highest-grossing Indian films at the UK box office, shattering all the previous records.
Interestingly, the filmmaker has an inclination towards making romantic movies, which he prefers to shoot outdoors, especially in the scenic beauty of the UK. Some of his iconic films set benchmarks in the field of romance.
