INDIA. Mumbai: Major General Yogender Singh has taken the helm as the Additional Director General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), Maharashtra, succeeding Major General YP Khanduri, who retired after an illustrious career spanning over three and a half decades in the Indian Army.

A distinguished alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, and the College of Defence Management, Secunderabad (Hyderabad), Major General Yogender Singh boasts a remarkable record in professional academia.

His experience includes service as an Instructor at the Army War College, Mhow (Madhya Pradesh), and the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun (Uttarakhand). He has been honored with the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card and the UN Force Commander’s Commendation Card for his exceptional services.

Additionally, he is an accomplished sportsman, having represented his state and the nation in football and volleyball.

Major General Yogender Singh, who was selected through the UPSC in 1988, was commissioned into the 5th Battalion of the Brigade of Guards in Kamptee, Nagpur, Maharashtra, following his training at the IMA, Dehradun.

Over his extensive career, which spans more than three and a half decades, he has held pivotal command and staff positions.

He has served in challenging conditions, including at the Line of Control (LOC), high-altitude areas, and played significant roles in Counter Insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and the North East. Notably, he participated in Operation Vijay (Kargil) and Operation Parakram on the Western Front.

Major General Yogender Singh has undertaken crucial command roles, including leading his unit, commanding an Independent Mechanized Infantry Brigade in Punjab, and overseeing the prestigious Rapid Division in Rajasthan on the Western Sector.

His international experience includes service in the UN Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea. Furthermore, he served as Director in the Operational Logistics Directorate at Army Headquarters in Delhi, where he played a pivotal role in coordinating humanitarian assistance under Operation “Megh Rahat” during the floods in Jammu and Kashmir in September 2014, as well as under “Operation Maitri” in Nepal following the earthquake in April 2015.

The NCC Directorate in Maharashtra has consistently been one of the top-performing directorates in the country, and Major General Yogender Singh has reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining its role as an organization dedicated to nurturing character, camaraderie, and discipline among the state’s youth.

He has emphasized that the NCC will continue to provide support to the State government in various awareness programs and initiatives for the citizenry with renewed enthusiasm.
