The tournament’s defending champion Australia won the first T20 World Cup last year after defeating New Zealand by seven wickets.

India just performed poorly at Asia Cup 2022, failing to advance to the finals. The team led by Rohit Sharma was eliminated from the competition after losing back-to-back games to Sri Lanka and Pakistan in the super four stages.

Eventually, Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2022 championship match and won the title. India will play a T20I series against Australia and South Africa before the ICC T20 World Cup in 2022.
