IRELAND: The Board of Ornua Co-operative has announced the appointment of Conor Galvin as the Chief Executive Officer of Ornua, effective May. Galvin, currently serving as the Chief Executive of Dairygold Co-operative Society, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role.
Having joined Dairygold in 2014, Galvin has ascended through various leadership positions to assume the role of CEO in January 2022. His extensive background includes stints as Finance Director at DCC’s Food & Beverage division and as Country Finance Manager at Procter & Gamble in Ireland. With a science degree from University College Dublin and an MBA from the Smurfit Business School, Galvin’s qualifications are matched by his practical experience and deep understanding of the dairy sector.
Aidan O’Driscoll, Ornua Co-operative Chair, expressed his enthusiasm for Galvin’s appointment, highlighting his comprehensive knowledge of the dairy industry and his dedication to cooperative values. O’Driscoll emphasized the importance of Galvin’s leadership in driving long-term sustainable growth for Ornua and its member cooperatives.

In his statement, Galvin expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead Ornua, citing the organization’s history of delivering value for Irish dairy families. He pledged to foster collaboration within the industry to address challenges and to continue Ornua’s trajectory of growth and investment.
Acknowledging the transition period, O’Driscoll thanked Donal Buggy, who has been serving as Ornua’s Interim Chief Executive since September. Buggy’s commitment to the business during this period has been invaluable, and he will continue in his role until May, thereafter returning to his position as Group Chief Financial Officer.
Ornua, an Irish dairy cooperative, plays a significant role in marketing and distributing dairy products for its members, which include Ireland’s dairy processors and farmers. With an impressive annualized sales figure of over €3.4 billion, Ornua stands out as Ireland’s largest exporter of dairy goods. Headquartered in Dublin, Ornua operates on a global scale, boasting a workforce of 3,000 employees spread across 10 business units and 16 production facilities. At the heart of Ornua’s mission is the establishment of profitable channels for Irish dairy products in the market.
As Galvin prepares to take the helm, he expressed his appreciation to Dairygold for the opportunity to lead, while also looking forward to the future at Ornua.
