PM Modi Embarks on 2-Day Visit to France, Focuses on Defense Deals and Space Operations

INDIA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day visit to France, where he will prioritize defense deals and space operations. One of the highlights of his visit will be attending the Bastille Day military parade as the chief guest.

During his time in France, PM Modi will engage in fruitful discussions with the French President and other government leaders to facilitate significant deals. The visit also includes a meeting with National Assembly President Yaël Braun-Pivet and a dinner at the Élysée Palace.

Vinay Mohan Kwatra, the Foreign Secretary of India, highlighted the longstanding strategic partnership between India and France, which marks its 25th anniversary this year. The bilateral talks between the two leaders will encompass various aspects of this partnership.

Defense will be a key focus area for PM Modi during his visit to Paris. It is anticipated that both countries will sign agreements pertaining to India’s acquisition of 26 Rafale-Marine combat jets for the navy and the construction of three additional Scorpene-class submarines within India.

The Defense Acquisitions Council (DAC) of India, led by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, will also approve the necessity (AON) for the navy’s maritime fighters and the construction of diesel-electric attack submarines at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL).

The Indian Air Force (IAF) already operates 36 Rafale jets, with plans to procure them from France at a cost of ₹59,000 crore.

The inclusion of Rafale M in the fleet will enhance commonality and contribute to improvements in training, maintenance, and logistics support, aligning with India’s “Make in India” initiative for self-reliance.

PM Modi’s visit to France underscores the significance of the strategic partnership between the two countries and aims to further strengthen cooperation in defense and space operations.
