As per the sources, a lawyer named Selvan filed a court notice regarding Vikram’s portrayal of the Chola King Aditya Karikalan. According to the lawyer, the Chola King never used to put a tilak on his forehead like on the movie poster. The petition filed in the court expressed concern that the Cholas might be misrepresented in the movie and noted that the tilak was visible in the poster but not in the teaser. The lawyer also asked for a special screening of the movie before its theatrical release to make sure the historical accuracy is maintained in the film.

The film Ponniyin Selvan stars Vikram as Aditya Karikalan, Jayam Ravi as Arunmozhi Varman, Karthi as Vallavarayan Vanthiyathevan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Queen Nandini, and Trisha Krishnan as Princess Kundavai. The film also stars Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prakash Raj, and Prathiban.
