INDIA: It was a historic moment in Test cricket as Kapil Dev, India’s legendary fast bowler, broke the long-standing record of most Test match wickets held by Richard Hadlee of New Zealand. 

On the 8th of February, 1994, Kapil Dev took his 432nd wicket in a Test match against Sri Lanka, surpassing Hadlee’s mark of 431 wickets and cementing his place in cricketing history.

Kapil Dev was born in January 1959 in Chandigarh, India. He made his international debut in 1978 and quickly established himself as one of the best fast bowlers in the world. 

He was known for his ability to swing the ball both ways, making him a fearsome opponent for batters.

He played 131 Test matches for India, taking 434 wickets at an average of 29.64. He also represented India in 225 One-Day Internationals, taking 253 wickets and scoring 3,783 runs.

Kapil Dev’s most outstanding achievement was breaking Richard Hadlee’s record for the most wickets in Test cricket.

Hadlee, who played for New Zealand, was considered one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time and held the record for over a decade.

His record-breaking feat came in the third Test match against Sri Lanka in Delhi, where he dismissed veteran Sri Lankan opener Hashan Tilakaratne.

Kapil held the record for eight years before it was broken by another all-time great, Courtney Walsh. This shows how long and steady Kapil was.
